Gypsy (Zigeuner) Sauce
Ingredients for Gypsy (Zigeuner) Sauce:
- 1 red pepper, sliced
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow pepper, sliced
- 2 onions, sliced
- 2 oz - 50 g sour pickles
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 9 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 2 cans tomato paste (small can)
- 2 cups - 470ml chicken stock or hot water with 1 chicken bouillon cubes
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons sambal
- 2 tablespoons potato- or cornstarch dissolved in water
- salt and pepper
How to make Gypsy Zigeuner Sauce:
Heat oil and sauté the onions & garlic, add sliced pepper, chopped pickles, tomatoes and tomato paste.
Stir very well. Add the chicken stock and bring to boil for one minute and then add dissolved potato flour and stir and cook for about 5 minutes.
Drip a little vinegar in the bowl and add the sugar.
Season to taste with chili sauce, sambal, salt and pepper.
